PENDLETON COMMUNITY SERVICE FUND
1. Our Mission
Our mission is to support and empower military service members, veterans, and their families by providing furniture, housewares, and infant/children’s resources. We are dedicated to addressing the unique challenges they face, ensuring they have access to the support and services they deserve, and honoring their sacrifice with respect and gratitude.
We accomplish this by soliciting lightly used furniture, housewares, car seats, etc. for families of enlisted military personnel. Cash contributions subsidize truck fuel, maintenance, and meals for volunteer drivers. We also support families by improving recreational facilities, supporting holiday events, and building/maintaining memorials that demonstrate community support.
2. Our History
We started in 2005 as the first Rotary Club ever chartered on an active military base. Since then, we have helped over 150,000 military families at Camp Pendleton. We built a Memorial Wall with names of over 1,600 Marines/Sailors who passed through Camp Pendleton and died in Iraq and Afghanistan. We build a Memorial Garden where memorial services are held for those who are killed in action. We provided $50,000 to help build recreational cottages for wounded/disabled Marines and we donated $50,000 to Palomar College for scholarships that help returning veterans further their education – both academic and vocational.
3. Current Operations
Active duty Marines volunteer to drive our truck to pick-up lightly used furniture and housewares 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year. Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton provides a warehouse where donations are stored. On Friday mornings, the warehouse is opened to military families. They are able to select donated items (furniture, housewares, baby items, etc. free of charge. We have helped well over 100,000 military families.
We are an IRS approved charity that consistently receives the highest rating (Platinum) from Candid/Guidestar.org – an organization that rates U.S. charitable organizations. We can be accessed at:
