PENDLETON COMMUNITY SERVICE FUND

1. Our Mission

We improve the quality of life for enlisted military families aboard Camp Pendleton by, providing free furniture and housewares for new families; supporting morale-building events, building/maintaining memorials that demonstrate community support and provide a tranquil place for family remembrances, providing financial grants for education and emergency assistance. We do this by receiving donations, collecting and distributing (free of charge) lightly used furniture, appliances, housewares, etc. to families of enlisted USMC/Navy at Camp Pendleton. We use cash contributions to support furniture pick-ups and family assistance. We also sponsor a variety of events like the USMC Birthday Balls, Halloween and Christmas parties for kids.

2. Our History

We were the first Rotary Club on a military base in the world. In the past four years we have helped over 37,000 military families at Camp Pendleton.  We built a Memorial Wall with names of over 1,600 Marines/Sailors who passed through Camp Pendleton and died in Iraq and Afghanistan. We a Garden where memorial services are held for those who are killed in action. We provided $50,000 to help build recreational cottages for wounded/disabled Marines and donated $50,000 to Palomar College for scholarships to returning veterans academic and vocational education.

3. Current Operations

We are an IRS approved charity that has received the highest rating for the past five years from Guidestar.org  – an organization that rates U.S. charitable organizations. Camp Pendleton provides a Warehouse where donations are stored.

Active duty Marines volunteer to drive our truck to pick-up lightly used furniture and housewares 5 days a week. On Friday mornings, donated items are distributed free of charge to military families. In 2018, we helped touched over 5,000 families.
